Silvan’s Farm | Carrboro, NC
Silvan Goddard owns half an acre of land where she farms for six months out of the year and sells to locals in the area. "I don't think there is one definition for a farmer anymore. I am a farmer, I take care of my plants and they take care of me."
In last weeks of summer, Silvan works at her small garden farm every day to insure that there are enough greens for her community sourced agriculture customers.
Silvan maintains her farm by selling the best of the harvest to local customers.
"It's funny, because I'm literally working in the dirt, but it's so cleansing for me" says Silvan as she picks the best green beans off of their stalks.

The last pepper harvest of the season.
Silvans hands plunge the newly harvested arugula leaves into cold water. "We use all natural fertilizer, so I'm just cleaning off dirt and bugs here."
"I have a different perspective on farming. I respect the plants that I grow, because it is a give and take. If I take care of them, they will take care of me." Says Silvan Goddard as she prepares to harvest some of the arugula leaves.
Spinning the greens makes quick work of drying the arugula leaves before Silvan packages them former customers.
